Important Information about Team Structure & Evaluations

CYO teams are categorized as either American or National. The American level team is for the more advanced, experienced and committed basketball players and will play solely against other American level teams. The National level is also very competitive across our league but a little less intense as compared to the American level. It is important to note that kids from National teams make high school teams at all of our local high schools each year and kids move from National to American teams in our program each year too. We ask that our American players prioritize CYO over other sports/activities during the regular season. Our general rule has been if your child is going to miss more than 20% of the games or practices due to other commitments, then you should not ask to be considered for American team as this will take the spot of another kid who may be more fully available. We will have independent evaluators (not coaches or parents etc) help asses kids at each level for consideration on the American team and the independent evaluator will work closely with the grade coordinators to form the American team.

For the girls divisions, we will form American teams in grades 4th through 7th. 8th grade is a single team this year (given # of kids registered). 3rd Grade girls does not have an American level. For the boys divisions, we will form American level teams from 3rd-8th grade. There is no American level at 2nd grade.

Given the large number of kids we have participating at each grade level, it is imperative that kids attend our evaluation session. This is especially true if your kid wants to be considered for the American team, but it is true for all kids as we will have a draft to form our teams for the national level (we will have multiple national teams at each level) following evaluations. We will have make-up sessions for those not able to attend, but again, for American level consideration, it is highly recommended to attend the regular session.
