FAQ for Basketball
Frequently Asked Questions:
- When does the season start and end?
- Evaluations are held in early September
- Practices start in October
- League games start in November and run into early February
- Playoffs will follow for qualifying teams
- What is the time commitment?
- Players should plan on two practices and one game per week.
- The St. Perpetua board and coaches expect a solid commitment to CYO basketball to avoid compromising other kids’ experiences. If you do not think your child can participate in at least 75% of games and practices please reconsider your decision to register.
- Where are practices and games held?
- St. Perpetua does not have a home gym and LMYA gets priority with Lafayette schools.
- Games are played across Contra Costa County from Orinda to Martinez.
- Practices are held in gyms across Lafayette, Walnut Creek, Moraga, and Concord.
- If my child decides not to play is my fee refundable?
- Refunds are available subject to a 20% processing fee if requested prior to evaluations. NO REFUNDS will be issued once teams are formed.
- Do I need to order a uniform?
- Yes, if you are new to St. Perpetua or have outgrown your last uniform please go to the website (www.spcyo.com) for ordering instructions.
- Otherwise, you may use your uniform from prior seasons.
- How are teams determined?
- One American team of the most skilled players will be selected for each division. National teams will be determined by a draft of all remaining players (note: 3rd grade girls has no American team).
- Who is eligible to play St. Perpetua basketball?
- Players must reside within the parish boundaries (refer to https://www.oakdiocese.org/diocese/parish-and-school-locator/?layers=Parish+Boundaries) or attend St. Perpetual School or Faith Formation classes.
- What do I do if I missed the registration deadline?
- Please register for the waistlist. We will do our best to accommodate as many participants as possible.
- What height are the baskets and what size balls to they use?
- All divisions play on a 10 foot basket.
- All girls divisions and boys divisions through 5th grade use a 28.5” ball. Boys 6th grade and older use a full size, 29.5” ball.

- Does St. Perpetua offer need-based scholarships?
- Yes. We do not want youth basketball to be a hardship for any family. See contact information below.
